NAWOJ, Plan International Begin Grassroots Push For Women’s Advocacy
In a renewed drive to strengthen advocacy for women and vulnerable groups in Nigeria, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists and Plan International Nigeria have commenced implementation of their strategic partnership agreement signed last year.
The collaboration has now moved into the implementation phase with onboarding and stakeholder engagement activities already underway in Bauchi and Sokoto states under the ASPIRE Project.
As part of the initiative, 12 Women Rights Organisations were engaged, seven in Bauchi and five in Sokoto, to deepen community engagement, improve communication strategies, and strengthen advocacy around issues affecting women and girls.
At the Sokoto onboarding session, NAWOJ was represented by Rabi Muhammed Gwadabawa, Vice President Zone A, alongside Aisha Madawaki, Chairperson of the Sokoto State chapter.
In Bauchi, Hauwa Idris Shall, Secretary Zone E, and Rashida Yusuf, Chairperson of the Bauchi chapter, represented the association.
National Chairperson of NAWOJ, Aishatu Ibrahim, described the partnership as a major step towards building stronger collaboration between media professionals and development organisations in promoting gender inclusion, impactful journalism, and sustainable community development.
She reaffirmed the association’s commitment to amplifying the voices of women and vulnerable groups across Nigeria through advocacy and transformative storytelling.
