Stolen For Years, Found In Days: FRSC Cracks Vehicle Fraud Case In Ekiti
In a country battling rising automobile fraud, technology is quietly turning the tide, one recovered vehicle at a time.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recorded a significant breakthrough with the recovery of a suspected stolen vehicle in Ekiti State, using its National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS) platform.
The discovery was made on 23 March 2026 during routine data uploads at the NVIS Desk Office in Ado Ekiti.
What appeared to be a standard registration quickly raised suspicion when a Motor Vehicle Officer from Emure Local Government Area submitted details of a Toyota Camry 2006 model with a chassis number that did not align with manufacturer specifications.
Sensing foul play, the NVIS Desk Officer corrected the anomaly and ran a fresh check on the database.
The result exposed a match with a vehicle reported stolen two years ago.
Further verification with the original owner confirmed the theft, prompting swift action.
After initial attempts to get the suspect to present the vehicle failed, the case was escalated to the police.
Acting on credible intelligence, officers from Irewolede Police Station in Ilorin recovered the vehicle on 31 March 2026 in Emure Ekiti.
The operation underscores the growing impact of data-driven enforcement and inter-agency collaboration in tackling vehicle-related crimes across Nigeria.
The FRSC has reiterated its commitment to strengthening vehicle documentation and urged Nigerians to verify vehicle records properly to avoid legal trouble.
