BIPOGA 2026 Kicks Off In Asaba As Police Link Fitness To Safer Policing Nationwide
In a country grappling with complex security challenges, the Nigeria Police Force is betting on fitness, team work and morale as quiet force-multipliers for safer streets.
That message took centre stage in Asaba on Friday as the 15th Biennial Police Games (BIPOGA 2026) opened at the Stephen Keshi Stadium.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (Rtd), joined Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, senior security chiefs and former Inspectors-General of Police to flag off the Games, which bring officers from across the federation together in sport and camaraderie.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, described BIPOGA as more than competition, saying it strengthens operational readiness, resilience and discipline while deepening unity within the Force.
He urged athletes to compete with integrity and uphold the highest professional standards.
With a record 37 sporting events, from athletics and football to boxing, wrestling and mixed martial arts, the Asaba Games also spotlight the Force’s long tradition of producing elite athletes who have flown Nigeria’s flag on the global stage.
Officials say the goal is simple: healthier officers, stronger bonds, and a more prepared Police Force for the demands of modern policing.
