Police Hail Ezekiel Nathaniel’s Historic Commonwealth Gold As Proof Of Sports Investment
Nigeria’s investment in developing athletes within its security institutions received a major boost after Police corporal Ezekiel Nathaniel stormed to a historic gold medal in the men’s 400 metres hurdles at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Nathaniel produced a commanding performance, crossing the finish line in 48.47 seconds to claim the Commonwealth title and improve significantly on his sixth-place finish at the Birmingham 2022 Games.
Reacting to the achievement, the Nigeria Police Force praised the athlete’s discipline, resilience and determination, describing the victory as a reflection of its renewed commitment to sports development, personnel welfare and capacity building.
Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, congratulated Nathaniel for bringing honour to both Nigeria and the Force, saying his success exemplifies excellence and inspires officers across the country.
The Force said it would continue to identify, nurture and support sporting talents within its ranks, maintaining that sports remain vital to tactical fitness, institutional morale and youth engagement.
