ECOWAS Office In Cabo Verde Charts 2026 Roadmap At Strategic Retreat
In a region where diplomacy now goes beyond protocol to measurable impact, the ECOWAS Office in Cabo Verde has moved to tighten its strategy for delivering results in 2026.
The ECOWAS Representation in Cabo Verde held its first Annual Retreat from 4 to 6 February 2026 in Ribeirão Chiqueiro, marking a key step in strengthening its institutional footing and sharpening its engagement with national authorities, partners and civil society.
Chaired by the Acting Resident Representative, Ms Kelly Lopes, the retreat brought together staff of the ECOWAS Office and collaborators from the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) and CEREEC under a pooling arrangement.
Participants reviewed recent performance and agreed on strategic and operational priorities for 2026, while also strengthening internal coordination and team cohesion.
The meeting reviewed activities carried out during the ECOWAS Golden Jubilee celebrations, including conferences, media programmes, fairs, school outreach and civil society partnerships that recorded strong public and institutional impact.
The 2026 work plan was presented around four priority pillars: diplomatic coordination, social awareness, institutional celebration and internal capacity strengthening.
Planned actions include regular coordination meetings with diplomats of ECOWAS Member States resident in Cabo Verde, initiatives to prevent gender-based violence and protect children’s rights, activities to mark ECOWAS’ 51st anniversary, and routine internal performance reviews.
The Office also outlined plans to deepen partnerships with government institutions, civil society organisations and community platforms, alongside capacity-building on human rights and educational campaigns in schools to promote inclusion, social protection and human development.
Ms Lopes described the retreat as a milestone in the Office’s institutional growth, reaffirming ECOWAS’ commitment to remain visible and impactful in Cabo Verde throughout 2026.
