PFAN Backs Tinubu’s Football Reforms, Demands Players’ Place At The Table
Nigerian footballers want a say in shaping the future of the game they play.
The Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria (PFAN) has backed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to overhaul Nigerian football, but says players must be central to the restructuring of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
PFAN President, Tijani Babangida (MON), said the association welcomed the resignation of the NFF President and Executive Board following the President’s call for comprehensive reforms.
Babangida said PFAN had spent more than two decades pushing for transparency, accountability and inclusive governance in Nigerian football, insisting that players and former players must have meaningful representation in the new structure.
The association also expressed confidence in the National Sports Commission (NSC), led by Shehu Dikko, to drive the reform process.
PFAN outlined three priorities: genuine stakeholder representation, compliance with CAF and FIFA statutes, and collaboration with government and football authorities.
It also urged President Tinubu to ensure fairness in the composition of the NSC Board, warning that administrative or legal gaps could undermine the reform effort.
“Nigerian football deserves a new dawn. The players are ready to play our part,” PFAN said.
