Ending HIV Tops On The Agenda As IAS Heads To Geneva With Game-Changing Tools In 2027
At a time when science is moving faster than access, the global HIV community is preparing for a crucial moment of reflection and action.
The International AIDS Society (IAS) has announced that IAS 2027, the 14th IAS Conference on HIV Science, will take place in Geneva, Switzerland, and virtually from 11 to 15 July 2027, bringing together around 5,000 participants from more than 130 countries.
IAS President-Elect and International Co-Chair, Professor Kenneth Ngure, said the world now has “game-changing” tools, including long-acting treatment and prevention options, that could help end the HIV pandemic.
However, he warned that access barriers and shrinking funding continue to lock many people out of these life-saving innovations.
“IAS 2027 will bring together scientists, programme leaders, policy makers and communities to take stock of the latest discoveries and find ways to ensure these tools reach everyone, everywhere,” Ngure said.
Local Co-Chair, Professor Alexandra Calmy of Geneva University Hospitals, said hosting the conference in Geneva is timely, given the city’s central role in global health and human rights.
She noted that the conference will provide a strong platform for renewed partnerships and global collaboration in the HIV response.
Switzerland is among the countries nearing the 95-95-95 targets, with low HIV prevalence and significant reductions in new infections and AIDS-related deaths.
Geneva also has a unique place in HIV history, being home to one of the few individuals considered cured of HIV.
Registration for IAS 2027 opens in November 2026, as the global HIV community looks ahead to a conference expected to shape the next phase of the fight against the virus.
