In a political climate where continuity is increasingly tied to performance, stakeholders in Onitsha South have thrown their weight behind the Executive Chairman of the Local Government Area, Hon. Sir Emeka Orji, citing what they described as a visible turnaround during his first tenure.
At a New Year stakeholders’ meeting held at the Onitsha South Local Government Secretariat, the Onitsha South Stakeholders Forum (OSSF) unanimously endorsed Orji for a second term, praising his achievements in infrastructure, urban renewal, environmental sanitation, security and the recovery of illegally acquired government properties.
In a communiqué issued on January 26, 2026, and signed by key Forum leaders, the group stated that Orji emerged through merit and popular support, emphasising that there is no zoning arrangement governing the chairmanship position in the LGA.
Stakeholders highlighted projects such as the recovery of government properties at Silas Works and Creek Road, the restoration of free traffic flow along Niger Street, the establishment of a general hospital, and improvements in security and economic activities across the council area.
They also commended Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, for his development efforts and continued support to the local council.
Reacting, Orji described the endorsement as a pleasant surprise and reaffirmed his commitment to consolidating on current achievements.
He disclosed plans to intensify urban beautification, including the planting of over 2,000 trees, and revealed that electricity has been restored to the council secretariat for the first time in over two decades.
“I urge the electorate to support me so we can continue the good work together,” he said.
