Community Secondary School, Amaulu, Ihitte Mbieri, Mbaitoli Local Government Area, has earned widespread commendation for its outstanding and dignified contribution to the just-concluded “Climate Smart and Sustainable Agriculture to Enhance Food Security in Imo State, Nigeria” conference held in Owerri.
The students and staff of the school were specially honoured with the responsibility of rendering the official welcome song at the opening ceremony an assignment widely regarded as both symbolic and prestigious. Their performance, rich in cultural expression and discipline, set a profound tone for the conference and underscored the importance of unity, heritage, and community spirit in addressing contemporary challenges.
The welcome song did more than entertain; it created an atmosphere of warmth, respect, and collective purpose, seamlessly transitioning delegates from their journeys into a reflective and solution-driven engagement on climate change, sustainable agriculture, and food security. Through this singular act, the students represented not only their school, but the entire Amaulu, Ihitte Mbieri community, Mbaitoli LGA, and indeed the vibrancy of Imo State’s youth on a distinguished state platform.
Observers noted that the performance embodied the very principles at the heart of the conference. Hospitality, cooperation, and communal responsibility values deeply rooted in Igbo culture were vividly expressed, reinforcing the idea that sustainable agriculture and food security thrive best where communities are united and culturally grounded.
Although not a technical presentation, the role played by Community Secondary School, Amaulu, was no less significant. It highlighted the school’s standing as a pillar of its community and a trusted representative of Imo State’s values at high-level engagements. The performance also sent a strong message that conversations around climate action and sustainability are inclusive, embracing cultural identity as a foundation for innovation and progress.
Speaking on the school’s contribution, the Chairman of Imo State Community Europe (ISCE), Chief Dr. Emmanuel Ahanonu, praised the students for delivering more than a song. According to him, they “opened a crucial dialogue with the heart and voice of their community,” reminding participants that the journey toward a food-secure Imo State must begin with unity, mutual respect, and a shared sense of purpose.
Chief Dr. Ahanonu further expressed deep appreciation to the School Principal, Lady Maria Ibe, for her exemplary leadership, as well as to the teaching staff and entire school community for their dedication, discipline, and commitment to excellence, which made the community proud on such a notable occasion.
As the curtains fell on the conference, one message remained clear: the graceful performance by Community Secondary School, Amaulu, will be remembered as a powerful cultural opening that aligned tradition with the future of climate-smart and sustainable development in Imo State.
Once again, congratulations to the students, their teachers, and the school leadership for this memorable and dignified contribution to a vital state dialogue.
