2027: Uzodimma Mobilises South East APC To Deliver Tinubu’s Re-election
Imo State Governor and Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South East, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has rallied party leaders across the region to close ranks behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election, warning that political unity is key to the South East’s relevance at the centre.
Uzodimma made the call in Enugu while addressing APC stakeholders from the five South East states, describing Tinubu’s re-election as a shared responsibility entrusted to the region’s party leadership.
He cautioned that the South East’s voting pattern in the 2023 presidential election weakened its bargaining power, noting that political predictability often leads to marginalisation.
However, he said the APC has since made significant inroads in the region, with increased representation in the National Assembly and state legislatures.
The governor stressed that the next task is to translate growing elite support into mass votes at the grassroots in 2027.
Declaring his support for Tinubu’s second term, Uzodimma said continuity would allow the President to consolidate ongoing economic and security reforms, pointing to improving security, currency stability, student loan access and infrastructure development as signs of progress.
He argued that backing Tinubu would also strategically position the South East for future political negotiations, including its long-held ambition to produce a President.
The meeting adopted a resolution endorsing Tinubu for a second term, moved by former Senate President, Chief Anyim Pius Anyim, and seconded by Chief Ken Nnamani.
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, urged South East leaders to move away from sentimental politics and embrace strategic, numbers-driven alliances to restore the region’s influence at the national level.
The meeting attracted governors, federal lawmakers, party leaders and other key APC stakeholders from across the South East.
