LAJA Mourns As Abbanobi-Eku Onyeka Loses Sister, Kate Onoh, At 55
The Anambra journalism community is in mourning following the death of Mrs Kate Onoh (née Abbanobi-Eku), a respected educator, politician and woman leader whose life was defined by service to people and community.
Kate, the younger sister of League of Anambra Journalists in Abuja (LAJA) member, Mr Abbanobi-Eku Onyeka, passed away at the age of 55. Her death was confirmed by her brother, who also announced that burial activities will commence on January 12, 2026.
Born in 1970 in Akwuoba Village, Ogbunka, Kate was married into the Onoh family of Umuchukwu, both in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
She was widely known for her commitment to education, grassroots politics and women’s leadership, roles through which she championed unity, empowerment and community development.
Those who knew her describe her as a bridge-builder whose passion for uplifting women and strengthening communal bonds left a lasting imprint on Ogbunka and Umuchukwu communities.
She is survived by her brother, sisters, cousins, son, sisters-in-law, daughter-in-law and grandchildren.
The funeral ceremony will take place in Ogbunka community, where family members have invited relatives, friends and well-wishers to gather and celebrate a life of purpose and service.
The event is expected to reflect the depth of Kate’s impact and the respect she commanded during her lifetime.
