Tinubu’s Reforms Gaining Traction As 2026 Budget Targets Consolidation – Information Minister

As Nigerians weigh the impact of tough economic choices, the Federal Government says early signs suggest the reforms are beginning to pay off.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, says the 2026 budget has been carefully designed to consolidate the gains of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reform agenda and translate them into tangible benefits for citizens.

In an op-ed titled “A Defining Moment for Nigeria: Why Staying the Course Matters,” the Minister described the 2026 appropriation as a “Budget of Consolidation, Renewed Resilience and Shared Prosperity,” aimed at strengthening policies that are already delivering results.

Idris acknowledged that the past 31 months have been challenging but necessary, stressing that decisive economic reforms were required to break years of stagnation.

According to him, positive indicators are emerging, including expanding business activity, improved investor confidence, easing inflation, and stronger external reserves.

“These are not just numbers; they are the foundation for lasting improvements in the daily lives of Nigerians,” he said.

The Minister highlighted government interventions targeted at ordinary citizens, such as the student loan scheme (NELFUND), the Presidential CNG initiative to reduce transport costs, youth programmes including LEEP, Jubilee Fellows and 3MTT, as well as renewed efforts to tackle food insecurity through agricultural financing and mechanisation.

He also pointed to major infrastructure projects and enhanced security operations, citing the recent rescue of abducted students in Kebbi and Niger States as evidence of renewed commitment.

While acknowledging public fatigue, Idris urged Nigerians to remain engaged, reject misinformation and see nation-building as a shared responsibility, assuring that the government remains committed to open and transparent communication.
