Ụmưzụ Ogbenneishii Lift 2025/26 Ogbenneishii PG’s Progressive League Title
Grassroots football once again proved its power to unite communities and uncover hidden gems as Ụmưzụ Ogbenneishii emerged champions of the 2025/26 Ogbenneishii President General’s Progressive League.
The youth-focused tournament, designed to nurture raw talent within the Ogbenneishii community, reached a thrilling climax with an electrifying final that drew a large and passionate crowd. In a closely fought encounter, Ụmưzụ Ogbenneishii edged out Ụmụihi Ogbenneishii, delighting spectators with flair, discipline and technical brilliance.
Amaọjị Ogbenneishii secured third place, rounding off a competition that celebrated not just football, but unity, youth development and community pride.
Speaking after the final, the sponsor and President General of the Ogbenneishii Autonomous Community, Chief Sir Joseph Onyekwere, praised the six participating teams for their sportsmanship and quality.
“The level of football artistry displayed is beyond my imagination. Supporting this competition is my way of giving back, and I hope it inspires others to invest in our youth,” he said.
Tournament coordinator, Sir Bruno Anyanwu, also lauded the initiative, describing it as a potential launchpad for future football careers.
The three-month tournament ended with Ụmưzụ Ogbenneishii carting home ₦1.5 million, alongside consolation prizes and individual awards, including Player of the Tournament.
Dignitaries at the event included Nigeria Rugby Football Federation President, Dr. Ademola Are; Mr. Okere of the National Sports Commission; and former NSC Director-General, Dr. Patrick Ekeji.
