NAF Pounds Terrorist Hideouts In Fresh New Year Airstrikes Across North-East, North-West

As Nigeria ushers in the New Year, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has signalled zero tolerance for terrorism, sustaining a fierce air interdiction campaign that has disrupted terrorist networks and denied them safe havens across key flashpoints in the North-East and North-West.

Between January 1 and 2, 2026, NAF fighter aircraft, operating under Operations HADIN KAI and FASAN YAMMA Sector 2, carried out coordinated, intelligence-driven strikes on identified terrorist hideouts, movement routes and assembly areas.

The operations were based on actionable intelligence detailing terrorist intent, logistics and mobility patterns.

In the North-East, precision airstrikes targeted entrenched terrorist enclaves at Abirma and Chiralia within the notorious Timbuktu Triangle, following sustained surveillance that confirmed their use for improvised explosive device (IED) production and attack planning.

The strikes destroyed multiple structures, with secondary explosions observed, indicating the destruction of explosive stockpiles and critical logistics.

Further interdiction missions at Guva in the Mandara Mountains dismantled additional terrorist storage and coordination hubs, significantly weakening their ability to regroup or launch attacks during and after the festive period.

Simultaneously, the campaign extended to the North-West, where NAF aircraft engaged terrorist elements around Karaduwa Giginya Na in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The terrorists were tracked moving in large motorcycle convoys and struck at a forested convergence point. Post-strike assessments confirmed several neutralised terrorists, destroyed motorcycles and eliminated weapons.

NAF said the sustained multi-theatre operations underscore its rapid strike capability, overwhelming airpower and firm resolve to dismantle terrorist networks while supporting ground forces.

The Air Force reaffirmed its commitment to protecting civilians, defending Nigeria’s sovereignty and restoring lasting peace across all theatres of operation.
