Kwara Ready For Global Sports Spotlight As BFN Boss Inspects Upgraded Indoor Hall
Kwara State is steadily positioning itself as a rising hub for elite sports, and the newly renovated Indoor Sports Hall in Ilorin may well be its strongest statement yet.
President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), Francis Orbih, on Saturday declared the state fully prepared to host national and international sporting events after inspecting the upgraded facility.
Orbih made the remark following a guided tour of the hall alongside the Director of Sports, Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Ibrahim Bako; BFN Technical Director, Mallam Tunde Kazeem; and former Commissioner for Sports, Hameed Adio.
Impressed by the standard of work, Orbih described the facility as one of the best rehabilitated indoor sports halls in Nigeria, noting that it compares favourably with similar venues anywhere in the world.
He said the hall meets all basic requirements for hosting top-level badminton and other indoor competitions.
“What we have seen here today is impressive. The hall is spacious, well-renovated and competition-ready.
From what I have seen, Kwara State is ready to host national and even international events,” he said, while commending Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his commitment to sports development.
Mallam Ibrahim Bako reaffirmed the state government’s resolve to sustain sports infrastructure, assuring stakeholders of continuous maintenance and effective utilisation of the facility as part of Kwara’s broader sports revival agenda.
Former international athlete and sports administrator, Hameed Adio, also praised the investment, describing it as a boost to sports development and a mark of purposeful leadership.
He urged sports federations nationwide to explore the facility for competitions and training programmes.
