Court Halts Police Enforcement Of Tinted Glass Permit Nationwide
A legal intervention has temporarily stalled the Nigeria Police Force’s plan to resume enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit, just days before it was due to take effect, underscoring the judiciary’s pivotal role in balancing security measures with the rule of law.
The enforcement, earlier announced on 15 December 2025 and scheduled to commence on 2 January 2026, has now been placed on hold following an interim court order.
The order, issued on 17 December 2025 in Suit No. HOR/FHR/M/31/2025, according to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, restrains the Police from proceeding with the policy pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.
In compliance with the court directive, the Nigeria Police Force has suspended nationwide enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit, he said.
The Force confirmed that it has entered an appearance in the matter, filed preliminary objections, and applied for the vacation of the interim order.
The court has adjourned the proceedings to January 20, 2026.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to upholding the rule of law, stressing that respect for judicial authority remains paramount even as the Police pursue their constitutional mandate of protecting lives and property.
While enforcement is on hold, the Police say they will continue to rely on lawful and intelligence-driven strategies to address security challenges across the country.
The statement assures members of the public that clear guidance will be issued after the court’s decision.
