Anambra Police Reinforce Zero Tolerance For Crossover Night Explosives
As excitement builds towards crossover night celebrations, security authorities in Anambra State are moving early to prevent festivities from turning into tragedy.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has reaffirmed the ban on tyre burning and the use of social explosives across the state during the Yuletide season and beyond.
The directive covers fireworks, knockouts, firecrackers and any other explosive devices capable of endangering lives and property.
The warning was contained in a press statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, and made available to journalists in Awka.
According to the police, the ban is aimed at safeguarding lives, maintaining public order, protecting government infrastructure, preventing environmental pollution and averting security breaches often linked to such activities.
CP Orutugu cautioned that tyre burning and the use of explosives pose serious safety risks and will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
He urged parents and guardians to warn their children and wards against engaging in the acts, stressing that offenders will be arrested and prosecuted in line with the law.
The Commissioner assured Ndi Anambra that the Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has intensified patrols, surveillance and intelligence-led operations to ensure a peaceful, safe and crime-free Yuletide celebration.
He encouraged residents to celebrate responsibly and lawfully, while wishing the people of Anambra a peaceful and joyous festive season.
