Police To Resume Enforcement Of Tinted Glass Permit January 2026
After months of suspension aimed at easing public compliance, the Nigeria Police Force has announced it will resume full enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy from 2 January 2026, citing growing security concerns across the country.
The Force said recent crime patterns show that vehicles fitted with unauthorised tinted glass are increasingly being used to conceal identities and aid serious offences, including armed robbery and kidnapping.
This development, police authorities noted, has made the resumption of enforcement both necessary and urgent in the interest of public safety.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the Police clarified that no court order had restrained them from enforcing the law on tinted glass.
The earlier suspension, they explained, was a voluntary step taken to allow motorists sufficient time to regularise their documentation without undue pressure.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, assured Nigerians that the renewed enforcement would be carried out professionally, with respect for citizens’ rights and in line with existing laws.
He reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property while upholding the rule of law.
Motorists who require tinted glass permits have been advised to apply through approved channels and ensure their vehicles comply with legal requirements ahead of the enforcement date.
