FRSC Boss Warns Passengers To Speak Up As 10 Die, 11 Injured In Obajana Night Crash
A tragic late-night journey along the Obajana–Lokoja road on Friday ended in horror as 10 passengers lost their lives and 11 others sustained serious injuries in a crash involving a commercial bus.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has since issued a strong warning to road users, urging passengers to speak out against reckless driving before it costs more lives.
The fatal crash, which occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on 10th October 2025, happened at Apamaru, involving a white Toyota Hiace bus (registration number KTG 100YL) carrying 21 male passengers.
Preliminary investigations revealed that speed violation and wrongful overtaking by the driver led to the accident, causing the vehicle to lose control.
According to FRSC, 10 passengers were killed instantly, while the injured victims, suffering deep cuts, fractures, and bruises, were rushed to Fisayo Hospital, Obajana.
The bodies of the deceased were released to their families and buried in accordance with Islamic rites at Sarikin Hausawa, Obajana.
Reacting to the incident, FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, mni, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and reiterated that night travel, speeding, and wrongful overtaking remain key causes of fatal road crashes in Nigeria.
He urged passengers to be vigilant and proactive, stressing that they have a duty to caution or report erring drivers.
“Silence in the face of recklessness is complicity in tragedy,” he said.
Mohammed further assured that the Corps would intensify enforcement against overloading and night journeys across major routes in the country, while advocating continuous public education on road safety.
The FRSC reminded motorists that road safety is a shared responsibility, urging members of the public to report reckless drivers through its toll-free line 122, or to the nearest patrol team or security agency.
