FRSC Loses Five Officers In September, Corps Marshal Orders Prosecution Of Reckless Motorists
The dangers of Nigeria’s highways are not borne by motorists alone; those tasked with protecting lives on the roads are increasingly paying the ultimate price.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of five of its operatives in September 2025, all knocked down by reckless drivers while carrying out official duties across different formations.
According to a statement by the Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, the tragic incidents occurred in Ekiti, Ogun, Taraba, Jos By-Pass, and Obollo Afor between 6th and 24th September.
FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, described the deaths as a grave loss, stressing that “they are not mere statistics but dedicated fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, and breadwinners cut short in the line of duty.”
He directed that motorists responsible for these knockdowns be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, warning that the Corps would no longer tolerate reckless acts that endanger its personnel.
Beyond road crashes, the Corps Marshal also raised concerns over increasing threats of kidnapping, violent attacks, and targeted assaults against FRSC officers.
He assured that engagements with relevant authorities are ongoing to strengthen the protection of personnel and installations.
While commiserating with the families of the deceased, the Corps Marshal called on Nigerians to honour their memory by obeying traffic rules, respecting FRSC operatives, and supporting the Corps’ mandate of safer highways.
He firmly cautioned that disregard for traffic laws and the safety of FRSC personnel will henceforth attract severe legal consequences.
