JUST IN: Peter Obi, Obidients’ Leaders Meet Obasanjo In Ogun State

The 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, on Tuesday, held a closed-door meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Obi, who was accompanied by the National Coordinator of the Obidients Movement, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, and the former Labour Party governorship candidate in Lagos, Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, was received warmly by the former president.

Although details of the meeting remain under wraps, sources familiar with the discussions hinted that it centred on Nigeria’s current socio-economic challenges, democratic governance, and the role of young people in shaping the country’s political future.

The visit comes amid heightened political discourse ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the Obidient Movement continuing to galvanise grassroots support across the country.

Mr. Obi, who has consistently called for visionary leadership, transparency, and youth inclusion in governance, has maintained close ties with the former president since his emergence as a major political figure in 2023.

Obasanjo, known for his influence in national politics and his frequent interventions on issues of governance, is believed to remain a key voice for consensus building among political actors.

The presence of Rhodes-Vivour, a popular youth figure in Lagos politics, further underlines the significance of the meeting, which many analysts say may be part of broader consultations by opposition leaders seeking stronger alliances ahead of future elections.

Neither Obi nor Obasanjo spoke publicly after the meeting, leaving room for speculation on the exact outcomes of their deliberations.
