Court Orders INEC To Add SDP Candidates To Saturday’s Bye-Elections
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says the Social Democratic Party (SDP) will now participate in tomorrow’s bye-elections across 12 states, following a Federal High Court ruling in Abuja.
The court ordered INEC to include the party and its candidates, despite the SDP’s earlier failure to submit a valid notice for primaries a requirement which meant the Commission did not monitor its selection process.
INEC confirmed it has accepted and published the SDP candidates’ names online, assuring voters that the last-minute judgement will not disrupt the elections scheduled for Saturday, 16th August 2025. The Commission, however, intends to appeal the ruling.
