INEC Clears 14 Groups, Rejects 157 In Race For Party Registration
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has pre-qualified 14 associations seeking registration as political parties, out of 171 applications received.
The decision, according to the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information & Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, followed a review of compliance with constitutional provisions, the Electoral Act 2022, and INEC’s guidelines.
While 14 associations met the requirements to proceed, 157 fell short.
He said the list of successful associations has been published on INEC’s official platforms, adding that the interim leaders of the groups have been invited to a briefing at its Abuja headquarters on Wednesday, 17th September 2025.
The Commission added that all claims will undergo physical verification before a final decision is made on their registrability.
It stressed that political party registration remains a continuous process under Nigerian law.
