NAF, US Strengthen Partnership On Smarter Firepower, Civilian Protection
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and the United States have renewed their partnership to improve smarter firepower delivery and enhance civilian protection in conflict zones.
This follows a courtesy visit to the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, by a US delegation from the Institute of Security Governance led by retired Major General Miguel Castellanos.
Air Marshal Abubakar highlighted the impact of the ongoing US-backed Air-to-Ground Integration (AGI) programme, which he said has sharpened the NAF’s precision targeting while reducing risks to civilians.

“The AGI programme ensures firepower is delivered at the right place and the right time, with precision and restraint,” he said, stressing that it also embeds global best practices in Civilian Harm Mitigation.
General Castellanos praised Nigeria’s leadership in embedding civilian protection into military operations, describing the collaboration as a model for the region.
He assured that the US would continue to provide technical support, training, and expertise to sustain the gains.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to building enduring joint processes that strengthen counter-terrorism operations, inter-agency collaboration, and humanitarian safeguards.
