Tinubu’s Brazil Visit Rekindles Health Ties, Nigeria Proposes 5-Year Action Plan

Nigeria and Brazil have taken decisive steps towards strengthening their long-standing ties, with health cooperation emerging as a key focus during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s state visit to Brazil.

President Tinubu, accompanied by the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Iziaq Kunle Salako, joined Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in what the host leader described as the “restart of Nigeria-Brazil relationship.”

Both leaders showcased an uncommon bond and renewed commitment to South-South cooperation, setting the stage for broader collaboration across multiple sectors.

At high-level talks involving ministers and senior officials, Nigeria proposed the development of a five-year joint action plan to operationalise the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed in July between the health ministries of both nations.

Nigeria further suggested a strategic government-to-government procurement arrangement aimed at strengthening the health sectors of the two countries.

This renewed engagement is expected to foster innovation, capacity-building, and shared progress in public health for both Nigeria and Brazil.
