Nigerian Philanthropist Commissioned Into Irish Police Force
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Correspondents’ Chapel has congratulated Chief Prince Dr Abel Sunday Adewunmi Ayodeji on his commissioning into Ireland’s national police service, An Garda Síochána.
Chief Ayodeji, a community development specialist and philanthropist, was officially attested on Friday, 22 August 2025, after completing his training at the Garda Police College.
His induction marks a historic milestone, making him one of the few Nigerians commissioned into the prestigious European law enforcement institution.
Born in Lagos and hailing from the Amororo Royal Family of Owu, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Chief Ayodeji has distinguished himself in social service, integration, and community development across Europe.
A registered European social service professional, he has worked with the European Union, United Nations, and national governments on issues including migrant integration, healthcare, and anti-domestic violence initiatives.
In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Leadership, Management, and Administration in Ireland earlier this year.
Alongside his wife, Chief Princess Adelaid Ayodeji, he runs the Asiwaju and Yeye Asiwaju Owu Sokori Community Development Foundation, which recently partnered with the NUJ FCT Correspondents’ Chapel.
NUJ FCT Correspondents’ Chapel Chairman, Felix Ojo, described him as “a trailblazer whose life reflects discipline, service, and global citizenship,” adding that his achievement was a source of pride for Nigeria and Africa at large.
