INEC Presents Certificates of Return To Seven By-Election Winners

Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally presented Certificates of Return to seven winners of the National Assembly by-elections held on 16 August 2025.

At a ceremony in Abuja, INEC’s National Commissioners handed the certificates to the newly elected lawmakers who will represent various constituencies across the country in the Senate and House of Representatives.

Among the recipients was Emmanuel Nwachukwu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), who, while speaking with journalists after receiving his certificate, assured his constituents that his tenure would deliver “authentic and impactful representation,” distinct from philanthropy-driven politics.

Nwachukwu said his experience at the helm of corporate leadership and as a community leader had prepared him to serve the people of Anambra South effectively.

He emphasised that the zone, with its large population of businessmen and women, requires focused representation that addresses their unique needs. “Representation should not be measured by how much money one gives out, but by the impact it has on education, health and the daily lives of our people,” he said.

Highlighting the ecological crisis in Anambra South, which he described as the “erosional capital of Nigeria,” Nwachukwu promised to attract both local and international experts to find sustainable solutions.

He also pledged to work closely with fellow lawmakers from the zone to address longstanding issues affecting the region. “This time, the people of Anambra South will feel truly represented,” he assured.

Other winners include Ikpea Joseph Igiagbe (APC), Senator-elect for Edo Central, and Igbinedion Omosede Gabriella (APC), elected to represent Ovia Southwest Federal Constituency. Certificates were also presented to Mukhtar Rabiu Garki (APC), representing Bubura/Garki in Jigawa State; Joseph Bagudu (APC), Chikun/Kajuru, Kaduna State; Elegbeji Adesola Yetunde Ayoola (APC), Ikene/Shagamu/Remo North, Ogun State; and Oyekunle Fola Sunday (APC), Ibadan North, Oyo State.

INEC confirmed that winners of the State Constituency by-elections will receive their certificates from Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in their respective states on Friday, 22 August 2025.
