The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered ₦6.9 million in cash, alongside sophisticated firearms, after a lone car crash in Garaku, Kokona Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson Ramhan Nansel said the crash occurred on Monday morning near the VIO checkpoint.

Two occupants of the Opel Vectra involved fled, but a vigilant officer recovered a G3 rifle and cash from the vehicle before handing them to police.

A search at the station revealed more weapons, including an AK-47, a Type 06 rifle, additional magazines, 57 rounds of ammunition, and ₦6.9 million in cash.

One suspect, Mohammed Tahir from Barkin Ladi, Plateau State, was arrested after a joint police–military manhunt.

He confessed to being part of a seven-man gang behind the kidnapping of a lawyer in Nyanya, Abuja, where ransom was collected. He admitted they were heading to Jos to share the proceeds before the crash.

Commissioner of Police, Shettima Jauro-Mohammed, has ordered further investigation while assuring residents of sustained security operations against crime.
