Nigeria Condemns Canadian Court’s ‘Baseless’ Terrorist Label On Political Parties

The Federal Government has strongly rejected a recent Canadian Federal Court ruling designating certain Nigerian political parties as “terrorist organisations.”

The judgment, linked to a refugee case involving Nigerian national Douglas Egharevba, was described by Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs as “reckless” and an unacceptable interference in the country’s internal affairs.

Officials said the ruling amounted to branding all members of the affected parties, including one that has produced three democratically elected presidents, as potential terrorists. “This is completely false and undermines our democratic institutions,” the ministry stated.

Nigeria called on Canada to retract the designation immediately and to work through diplomatic channels to address the matter.

The government urged the international community to disregard the ruling, insisting that Nigerian political parties operate lawfully under a robust democratic framework.
