Delta Political Circles Abuzz As Alleged Fake Report Sparks Uproar
Tension is simmering in Delta State’s political landscape following a widely circulated report suggesting that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is plotting a return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), months after officially joining the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The publication, which made the rounds over the weekend, alleged that the Governor was in secret talks with key political players, including former Minister Nyesom Wike, to facilitate a quiet return to his former party.
However, credible sources close to the Delta State government have debunked the claims, describing the report as “a calculated attempt to mislead the public and stir unnecessary political tension.”
According to insiders, the controversial story was not only inaccurate but designed to “distract from the Governor’s current strides in governance and development.”
A senior political figure in the state, who requested anonymity, noted that such stories were becoming a recurring tactic used to destabilise Delta’s political space.
“It is unfortunate that instead of fostering political maturity, some actors are resorting to unfounded reports that aim to confuse the electorate and discredit the leadership that is currently focused on delivering on its mandate,” the source said.
Governor Oborevwori, who secured his 2023 election victory under the PDP before defecting to the APC in April 2025, has continued to receive support from stakeholders both within and outside the state.
His defection was seen by many as a strategic political move that strengthened the ruling party’s base in the South-South region.
The Governor is yet to make any official statement concerning the rumour, but those close to his camp insist he remains committed to his current party and its progressive agenda for Delta State.
