FG Reaffirms Commitment To Religious Harmony, Lauds Church’s Role In Nation-Building
The Federal Government has restated its strong commitment to fostering religious harmony and national unity, describing the Church as a key partner in instilling values and mentoring the next generation.
This reassurance came during the National Synod of the Charismatic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, held in Abuja, where the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, was represented by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mr Chinasa Ogbodo.
Speaking on the theme “Generational Impact”, the Minister highlighted the Church’s critical role in tackling social and moral challenges, stressing that the future of any nation depends on its ability to raise better generations.
Alhaji Idris called for stronger collaboration between government and faith-based organisations, noting that initiatives like the National Values Charter champion virtues such as integrity, unity, and social justice.
“The Church’s voice is powerful,” he said. “It must be used to shape character, counter misinformation, and champion peace and truth, especially in today’s digital world.”
A statement signed by the Director, Public Relations & Protocol, FMION, Suleiman Haruna, said the Synod also recognised outstanding Nigerians across religious divides for their contributions to interfaith harmony and national development, underscoring a shared commitment to unity and lasting impact.
