Troops Intercept Ammunition-Laden Truck, Arrest Alleged IPOB/ESN Suppliers In Major Security Breakthrough

In what authorities have described as a major breakthrough, troops of Operation UDO KA have arrested two suspected logistics suppliers linked to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

The operation also led to the interception of a truck carrying a staggering cache of live ammunition.

The arrests were made in coordinated operations involving Sector 5 troops, personnel of the 63 Brigade, and the Department of State Services (DSS).

Acting on credible intelligence, the first suspect, Mr Emeka Omenife, was apprehended late on Sunday, 25 May 2025, along the Asaba–Onitsha Expressway. While he had no weapons on him at the time, his confession during interrogation led to the arrest of his alleged accomplice, Mr Uchenna Obiora, days later at the Onitsha–Awka Toll Gate.

But the most significant discovery came with the interception of a logistics truck, bearing Lagos registration EKY 642 YC.

Hidden within four cleverly constructed compartments beneath the cargo floor were 164,650 live cartridges. Preliminary findings revealed the ammunition had been smuggled in from Ghana, with Onitsha marked as its final destination.

Further investigation has shown that this is not Mr Omenife’s first brush with the law.

He was previously arrested in January 2024 in connection with similar activities but was later released after medical treatment and questioning.

This latest development highlights growing concerns over re-emerging illegal arms networks across the region.

The Nigerian Armed Forces have reaffirmed their commitment to dismantling such operations and are calling on citizens to continue sharing credible information to support ongoing efforts.

“Security is a collective responsibility,” said Major General MG Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations. “We urge the public to remain vigilant and support our troops by reporting any suspicious activities.”
