Precision Air Strike In Zamfara: 20 Terrorists Neutralised, Vigilante Casualties Reported

In the early hours of 1 June 2025, the Nigerian Armed Forces carried out a precise air strike on terrorist hideouts in Maraya Village, Zamfara State, as part of an intensified campaign to rid the region of insurgent threats.

The operation, which began around 1:11am, followed a strategic interdiction mission on 31 May. Ground troops from 1 Brigade, operating from Forward Operating Base Magami, were immediately deployed to the Maraya/Wabi axis in Maru Local Government Area to assess the outcome and gather intelligence.

Initial reports from the battle damage assessment confirm the elimination of 20 terrorist elements, marking a significant blow to their operations in the area. However, the operation was not without tragedy—two local vigilantes lost their lives, and two others sustained injuries due to an inadvertent strike.

The Chief of Defence Staff has extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and expressed hopes for the speedy recovery of the injured.

In a statement signed by Major General MG Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, the military reaffirmed its commitment to closer collaboration with local security outfits to improve coordination and prevent such mishaps in future missions.

Efforts are ongoing to enhance operational precision and ensure the safety of all involved in the nation’s fight against terrorism.
