The Resource Centre for Human Rights and Civic Education (CHRICED) has raised the alarm over what it describes as a shocking abuse of power in a land fraud case involving 79-year-old widow, Collen Mero Yesufu.
At the centre of the scandal is Rebecca Omokamo Godwin Isaac, also known as Bilikisu Ishaku Aliyu, who continues to occupy a disputed plot in Abuja’s Guzape District despite court orders and a mountain of evidence from the EFCC and FCTA pointing to fraud, forgery, and criminal trespass.
CHRICED is accusing the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, of shielding the suspect from arrest by deploying armed officers to protect her, thereby obstructing justice and undermining public trust in law enforcement.
“This is not just an abuse of office. It is a betrayal of justice,” said CHRICED Executive Director, Dr Ibrahim Zikirullahi. “It echoes the Yahaya Bello saga, where police protection was misused to block accountability.”
The group is demanding the immediate withdrawal of all police personnel from the disputed land, urging the EFCC to continue its investigation without interference.
CHRICED also wants the National Assembly and other oversight bodies to probe the IGP’s alleged complicity.
They are calling on President Bola Tinubu to act swiftly, warning that if nothing is done, they will pursue legal and civic action to defend the rights of vulnerable Nigerians like Mrs Yesufu.
“Justice must not be for sale. We will not stand by while power protects impunity,” Dr Zikirullahi declared.
