FRSC Boss Mourns Kano Crash Victims, Urges Action Against Road Carnage

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic road crash that claimed 21 lives on the Kaduna-Kano expressway, calling for urgent collective efforts to tackle the growing menace of road fatalities in Nigeria.

The lone accident, which occurred at Gadar Yankifi around 12:30pm on Saturday, 31 May, involved a Kano State Government coaster bus with 24 passengers on board 23 male adults and one female. Preliminary reports suggest fatigue and excessive speed, possibly due to overnight travel, may have caused the crash.

According to the FRSC, only five people four men and one woman survived with injuries and were rushed to hospital.

The remaining 21 victims, all men, were confirmed dead at the scene.

In a heartfelt message, Corps Marshal Mohammed extended his condolences to the bereaved families and the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, describing the incident as a painful reminder of the need for safer driving practices, especially during night journeys.

He urged fleet operators and drivers to prioritise rest, adhere strictly to speed limits, and ensure vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on any trip.

“The loss is deeply saddening,” he said. “But it must also serve as a wake-up call. We must all work together to end avoidable road tragedies.”

The FRSC assured the public of its continued commitment to improving road safety and reducing crashes nationwide.
