Fake Video On Marte Attack Exposed As Deliberate Disinformation – Military Warns Public
The Armed Forces of Nigeria have debunked a viral video falsely linked to the recent attack on troops in Marte, Borno State, labelling it a calculated attempt to mislead the public and undermine military efforts.
A statement signed by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, says following a detailed investigation, authorities confirmed the footage originally posted in December 2020 has no connection to the 12 May 2025 attack.
He said the misleading video, allegedly circulated by terrorist sympathisers, is being used to spread fear and diminish public confidence in the military.
Despite the early morning assault in Marte, troops successfully repelled the terrorists, neutralising several of them.
According to the Director, the military has condemned the circulation of fake content and vowed to identify and prosecute those responsible.
He urged citizens to rely solely on verified, official sources for updates on military operations.
The Armed Forces reaffirm their commitment to defending Nigeria’s sovereignty and continue to make significant gains across operational theatres.
“Together, we shall overcome,” the statement concluded.
