Troops Ramp Up Offensive As Armed Forces Intensify Operations Nationwide

The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) have continued a string of decisive operations across the country, neutralising terrorists, rescuing kidnapped victims, and clamping down on oil thieves in a renewed push for national security and food security.

From 8–15 May 2025, troops operating across different theatres including the North East, North West, North Central, South South, and South East, recorded major victories against criminal elements.

In the North East, scores of Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters, including women and children, surrendered, while 17 abductees were rescued in raids across Borno State.

Troops also arrested terrorist collaborators and recovered a cache of weapons and ammunition.

In the North West, soldiers rescued over 120 kidnap victims across Sokoto, Zamfara and Katsina states.

Several bandits were neutralised and their hideouts dismantled. In Plateau and Kaduna, troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN arrested kidnappers and gunrunners, recovering weapons and cash.

The South South saw intensified efforts against oil bunkering. Troops under Operation DELTA SAFE uncovered and dismantled 18 illegal refining sites, seizing over 100,000 litres of stolen crude products worth over ₦103 million.

Fifteen suspects were arrested during the operations.

In the South East, troops operating under Operation UDO KA dismantled criminal cells and recovered arms and illicit oil. Notably, one identified terrorist known as “Arrow” was neutralised in Imo State.

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, who confirmed these incidents, reaffirmed the military’s commitment to defending the nation’s sovereignty and urged citizens to support the military through credible information sharing.

According to him, the AFN continues to operate within the rule of law and human rights protocols, striving to restore peace and stability across Nigeria.
