The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) and ActionAid Nigeria have reaffirmed their commitment to advancing women’s leadership and empowerment across the country through the Women Voices and Leadership (WVL) project.
During a courtesy visit to ActionAid Nigeria’s headquarters in Abuja, NAWOJ National Chairperson, Hajia Aisha Ibrahim, expressed gratitude for the organisation’s support, which she said has significantly strengthened NAWOJ’s institutional capacity and impact.
“Through your generous contribution, we have established a functional national secretariat and developed inclusive policies that reflect our commitment to equity and professionalism,” Hajia Ibrahim stated, adding that the Association looks forward to deeper collaboration on capacity building, mentorship, and advocacy initiatives.
She called for more strategic partnerships to reach women at the grassroots, noting that empowering female journalists has a ripple effect on society’s development.
Responding on behalf of ActionAid Nigeria, Deputy Country Director Hajia Suwaibu Muhammad Dankabo commended NAWOJ’s achievements under the WVL project’s first phase and emphasised the importance of building on those successes.
“You came at the right time as we’re about to unveil a new chapter of the WVL project. We recognise the power of journalism, especially when driven by women with lived experiences and passion for justice,” she said.
Both organisations agreed to explore new avenues to amplify women’s voices and leadership in Nigeria, particularly as the second phase of the WVL project approaches.
