Police Warns Against Circulation Of Old Videos Aimed At Undermining National Security
The Nigeria Police Force has raised alarm over the rising trend of recirculating old, misleading videos across social media platforms, warning that such actions threaten public trust and national security.
In a statement issued by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police decried the deliberate reposting of outdated clips, including a video of a Mobile Police officer lamenting conditions in Yobe State and another alleging political interference in the fight against banditry.
According to the police, both videos are years old, thoroughly investigated, and no longer reflect current realities.
“The recirculation of these materials is a calculated attempt to discredit the Police and incite public panic,” the statement noted, emphasising that disciplinary measures were taken in the past where necessary.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, urged Nigerians to verify content before sharing and warned that spreading falsehoods undermines national institutions.
He also reassured the public of the Police Force’s ongoing efforts to improve officer welfare and strengthen internal security.
“False narratives only serve to distract from real progress,” he cautioned, as he reiterated the Police’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Nigeria.
