Dollar Rain In Mauritius As NSC DG Bukola Olopade Rewards Nigerian Weightlifters

Team Nigeria’s morale soared to new heights on Wednesday as the Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, splashed a generous $3,800 on athletes and officials at the ongoing 2025 Africa Weightlifting Championship in Moka, Mauritius.

Meeting with the team and officials of the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation, Olopade delivered more than just words of encouragement, he brought cash and good news.

“More gold, more money! As you are winning, you are getting your alert,” he declared, reinforcing the government’s commitment to athletes’ welfare under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

In an even bigger announcement, Olopade revealed that four Nigerian lifters have been placed in the prestigious A Category of the Elite Athletes Programme and will each receive $20,000 in annual training grants starting with a $5,000 installment next week.

“This is to ensure you focus fully on the Commonwealth Games, World Championships, and the Olympics without distractions,” he emphasised.

With six determined athletes already flying the flag in Mauritius, this dollar rain couldn’t have come at a better time.

Expectations are high, and now so is the motivation.
