In a bold move to reignite collaboration among women-led organisations, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) and the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) have pledged to join forces in advancing skill acquisition and entrepreneurial empowerment for women across Nigeria.

During a courtesy visit to the NCWS National Secretariat in Abuja, NAWOJ National Chairperson, Aisha Ibrahim, stressed the urgent need for women to close ranks and speak with one voice. “We are back—not just to observe, but to support, contribute, and collaborate fully,” she declared, marking the end of NAWOJ’s passive role in NCWS affairs.

Ibrahim proposed joint training programmes on leadership, advocacy, and development communication, while calling for mentorship networks and regular dialogue between the two bodies.

She also championed the return of NAWOJ to its traditional Public Relations Officer (PRO) role within NCWS, promising to earn it through “service, support, and solidarity.”

In her response, NCWS President Princess Edna Azura warmly welcomed the renewed partnership. “Women can’t do it alone. But when we come together, people will hear us—even the men will know that the women have woken up,” she said.

Both leaders agreed that collaboration is the way forward, committing to share ideas, address challenges, and amplify the voices of Nigerian women through joint action and strategic engagement.

The visit ended on a hopeful note, with promises of mutual support and a fresh determination to drive real change for women across the country.
