FRSC Mourns Fallen Rescue Operative, 16 Others In Ogun Crash—Corps Marshal Issues Stern Warning On Speeding

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of 17 people, including a dedicated rescue operative of the Corps, in a fatal road crash that occurred in Gbara, Ogun State.

The crash, which involved seven vehicles—including a police pickup van, commercial buses, two motorcycles, and multiple trucks—was reportedly caused by excessive speeding and brake failure.

Of the 18 people involved, only one survived with injuries, while 17 others—comprising 11 men, 5 women, and a child—lost their lives.

“This is a painful loss,” the Corps Marshal said. “One of our own, who was on duty trying to save lives, was also killed.

The price of recklessness on our roads is simply too high.”

He emphasised that speed limit violations continue to pose a deadly threat on Nigerian roads and warned that the driver responsible for the carnage will be prosecuted.

Mohammed called on all motorists to prioritise vehicle maintenance, obey traffic rules, and drive responsibly.

“Our resolve remains firm. FRSC will not back down in its mission to make our roads safer.

But we can’t do it alone,” he stated, urging all Nigerians to join the campaign against reckless driving.

The Corps pledged to intensify road safety education and enforcement nationwide, as the nation mourns another avoidable tragedy.
