IGP Sends Police Team To Kano, Withdraws Invitation To Sanusi

In a move aimed at de-escalating tensions and ensuring neutrality in ongoing investigations, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has withdrawn an earlier invitation extended to Alhaji Aminu Sanusi in connection with the violent incident that marred the Sallah celebration in Kano on March 30, 2025.

The IGP instead, directed operatives of the Force Intelligence Department (FID) to visit Kano and obtain Alhaji Sanusi’s statement on events that led to a breakdown of law and order, which resulted in the death of one Usman Sagiru and left several others injured.

The police explained that both Alhaji Ado Bayero and Alhaji Aminu Sanusi had agreed, following high-level interventions, not to hold any Durbar processions on Sallah Day.

However, despite attending Eid prayers by car, Alhaji Sanusi later mounted a horse in a symbolic procession, allegedly flanked by local vigilantes a move that sparked unrest among youths and escalated into violence.

The IGP’s decision to withdraw the formal invitation followed consultations with respected stakeholders and was guided by a desire to avoid any political interpretations of police actions.

“The Force remains committed to fairness, professionalism, and justice in handling this matter,” said ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer.

He confirmed that arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing, adding that anyone found culpable will face the full weight of the law.

As the probe continues, the Nigeria Police has reassured the public of its dedication to preserving peace and order in the state and across the country.
