In a bid to enhance digital transformation and regional integration, the ECOWAS Commission has concluded a consultative workshop on its Regional Geospatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) Project.
The two day consultative workshop held Lomé, Togo, brought together national geospatial agencies, regional experts, and technical partners to align on data standardisation across West Africa.
The project, led by the Commission’s Early Warning Directorate, aims to harmonise and centralise geospatial data to improve governance, crisis response, and development planning.
Vice-President of ECOWAS, Damtien L. Tchintchibidja, who officially closed the workshop, urged Member States to remain committed to building a geospatial system that strengthens the region’s capacity to anticipate and act.
Key achievements from the workshop include validation of the SDI framework and consensus on policy strategies for sustainability.
ECOWAS also expressed gratitude to the Government of Togo for its hospitality and support.
“Together, let us construct a geospatial infrastructure that enables our region to act with greater impact, coordinate, and anticipate,” the Vice-President said.
The workshop marks a bold stride toward an “ECOWAS of the People” through smarter data-driven governance.
