Intra-African trade remains a critical pathway to economic prosperity, yet barriers like tariffs, infrastructure gaps, and regulatory hurdles continue to slow progress.
Recognising the urgency of seamless trade across the continent, the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Touray, met with TradeMark Africa’s (TMA) Board Chairman and former Ethiopian Prime Minister, Hailemariam Desalegn Boshe, in Abuja to brainstorm on the way forward.
The high-level discussions focused on the implementation of an existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between ECOWAS and TMA, aimed at enhancing regional trade and boosting Africa’s participation in global markets.
TradeMark Africa, a key player in Africa’s Aid-for-Trade landscape, is backed by international partners, including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the EU, and multiple governments, to remove trade barriers and enhance market integration.
With ECOWAS championing free movement and TMA driving trade facilitation, the meeting reaffirmed a shared commitment to turning Africa’s economic potential into tangible growth.
