ECOWAS President Showcases West Africa’s Peace Efforts in Addis Ababa

President of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, Commission Dr. Omar Touray, has highlighted West Africa’s long-standing experience in peace negotiations during a high-level meeting on peace processes in Africa.
The event, organised by Chatham House and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on the sidelines of the 38th African Union Summit, gathered key African leaders and experts.
Dr. Touray, alongside Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security, Abdel Fatau Musah, shared ECOWAS’ role in resolving conflicts in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea-Bissau, and The Gambia.
Other notable speakers, including Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas and Professor Ibrahim Gambari, reflected on the contributions of local, regional, and international actors in shaping sustainable peace agreements across the continent.
The discussion emphasised the need for inclusive negotiations and regional cooperation to achieve lasting stability in Africa.
