The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) is set to expand its scope beyond Nigeria’s internal conflicts to tackle key regional crises in Africa, including the French withdrawal from the Sahel and the ongoing crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Director-General of IPCR, Dr. Joseph Ochogwu, made this known during a strategic meeting with the executive members of the Diplomatic Correspondents Association (DICAN) in Abuja.
Dr. Ochogwu acknowledged that while the Institute has largely focused on Nigeria’s internal conflicts, it must also address broader regional challenges.
He emphasised the need to project Nigeria’s soft power across Africa through peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and diplomatic engagement.
“We are committed to addressing regional conflicts such as the Sahel crisis and the DRC situation while ensuring Nigeria’s approach to peacebuilding is well-recognised across the continent,” he stated.
He also stressed the importance of international collaboration and media partnership in achieving sustainable peace, adding that research without proper dissemination has little impact.
DICAN Chairman, Comrade Idehai Frederick, reaffirmed the association’s commitment to accurate and timely reporting on Nigeria’s foreign policy.
He also announced plans for DICAN’s annual lecture, where experts will analyse the nation’s diplomatic strategies under the 4D agenda.
The meeting reinforced the crucial role of diplomatic correspondents in shaping foreign policy discussions and increasing public awareness of Nigeria’s global engagements.
