ECOWAS President Leads Delegation to Key AU Meeting

The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Touray, is leading a high-level delegation to the 46th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union (AU) in Addis Ababa.
The gathering, attended by foreign ministers and top officials from across the continent, is set to elect new AU leaders and discuss pressing issues such as peace, security, and economic development.
During the opening session, Ethiopia’s Foreign Minister, Gedion Timotheos, highlighted Africa’s challenges, including conflicts, security threats, and the need for UN Security Council reforms.
Outgoing AU Commission Chairperson, Dr. Moussa Faki, reflected on the institution’s achievements while stressing the urgent need for improved funding and stronger continental partnerships.
Dr. Touray and his delegation will engage in parallel discussions on regional security, economic integration, and the role of ECOWAS in shaping Africa’s future.
This session will set the stage for the 38th Ordinary Session of the AU Heads of State and Government, scheduled for February 15-16.
As ECOWAS navigates its evolving role amidst regional and continental challenges, the participation of its leadership in this AU summit signals a continued commitment to Africa’s unity and progress.
