As Valentine’s Day approaches, the Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) FCT, Bassey Ita Ikpang, has urged adolescents, especially young girls, to celebrate responsibly while prioritising their well-being.

In a heartfelt message, Ikpang reminded youths that true love starts with self-care and making healthy choices.

She encouraged them to avoid risky behaviours, stay in safe environments, and seek guidance when in doubt.

“Love should uplift and empower you, not put you at risk,” she emphasised, while reaffirming NAWOJ’s commitment to advocating for the rights and well-being of young girls.

As a media HIV advocate, Ikpang warned against the dangers of unsafe sexual practices and gender-based violence, urging adolescents to protect themselves.

“AIDS is real – protect yourself. Say no to gender-based violence. Love should never come at the cost of your safety and well-being,” she cautioned.

She wished all youths a happy and safe Valentine’s Day while encouraging them to celebrate with wisdom, self-respect, and confidence in making informed decisions for a bright and healthy future.
