The Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) has appointed 15 coaches to lead Rugby Rising Play Nigeria, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at introducing young girls to rugby across the country.
The programme, part of World Rugby’s global Rugby Rising Play initiative, is designed to make the sport more accessible and enjoyable for teenage girls.
Under the supervision of Wuraola Hussain, a Rugby Africa-certified educator, the appointed coaches—drawn from Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones—will drive grassroots rugby development, emphasising fun, fitness, and inclusivity.
The coaches were selected after successfully completing the T1 Rugby Course, a non-contact version of the sport that retains key elements like scrums, lineouts, and breakdowns.
They have also undergone safeguarding training in line with NRFF and World Rugby’s child protection policies.
This initiative is a major step towards fostering female participation in rugby and creating pathways for young talents to thrive at the national level.
